Shopping and lunch in Haarlem

ALONG THE SPAARNE · A DAY OF SHOPPING

A shopping day in Haarlem is even better when you leave time to sit down together for a meal. Choose a few shopping streets that suit your interests and make lunch your chance to pause. At Spaarne 66, lunch is served from 12:00 to 16:00 by the water in the city centre.

Choose your own Gouden Straatjes

The Gouden Straatjes are a good starting point if you enjoy discovering independent shops. The official 2025 guide from Haarlem Marketing brings together streets, shops and a map. Use it for inspiration and check current opening hours directly with the shops you particularly want to visit.

  • Anegang: the guide features fashion, jewellery and watches here, among other things. A starting point if you are looking for clothes or accessories.
  • Gierstraat: the guide lists a children’s bookshop, a drugstore and a goldsmith, among others. A good way to combine different interests.
  • Warmoesstraat: explore this street if you are interested in interiors, cooking and fashion.
  • Schagchelstraat: the guide brings together clothing, fabrics, vintage accessories and art here.

You do not need to visit them all. You could each choose one shop at the top of your list, leaving anything else you discover along the way as a bonus. Use the map in the guide to decide your own order; these are suggested streets, not a fixed walking route.

Make lunch your time to meet up

When shopping with friends or family, it is easy to lose track of time: one person is still trying something on, while another wants to return to a shop window. Agree on a lunch time beforehand so you know when to meet again. That also leaves room to go your separate ways for a while.

You will find Spaarne 66 at Spaarne 66. Browse our lunch menu and book a table for a time between 12:00 and 16:00. Allow time to get here from your last shop, so you can start lunch without rushing.

Before or after shopping

Would you rather start with breakfast together? At Spaarne 66, breakfast is available from 09:00. Check which shops will be open afterwards so your morning flows smoothly. Our breakfast menu also includes our well-known French toast.

If you would like to carry on browsing after lunch, keep one or two more places in mind. Finished shopping? Join us for drinks throughout the day or dinner from 17:00. In fine weather, take a look at our terrace by the Spaarne; on a rainy day, find ideas for indoor activities here.

Christmas shopping in Haarlem: choose gifts without rushing

Make a short Christmas shopping list: who are you buying for, what is your budget and which shops do you definitely want to visit? Choose a few places in the Gouden Straatjes and leave room for an unexpected find along the way. The guide above offers inspiration; check current ranges and opening hours with each shop.

When buying a gift, ask about exchanges and whether you can get a gift receipt or till receipt. If you choose something fragile or bulky, think about how you will carry it home. Agree on a lunchtime with your group so you can meet again after shopping and plan the rest of the afternoon.

Shops may use different opening hours in December. Do not assume there will be extra evening opening or that a shop will open on a public holiday. For your chosen date, also check Spaarne 66 visitor information and availability on our reservation page.
