Spaarne 66 is a home from home by the Spaarne. A place for all ages and every occasion, right in the heart of Haarlem.
Since January 2022, we and our team have been making Spaarne 66 a welcoming place to gather in the heart of Haarlem.

It started with satay.
And a barbecue on our balcony.
In 2012, we, Sanne and Silvester, started satébestellen.nl. We enjoyed ordering takeaway ourselves, but wanted to offer something more: the quality and experience of eating out, enjoyed at home on the sofa. Armed with our own authentic satay recipe and an online shop we built ourselves using Mijnwebwinkel.nl, we got to work.
Our own restaurant? That was the dream. The money for it? We did not have that yet. So we turned our balcony into a kitchen, with a barbecue and a gazebo. Silvester cooked and Sanne delivered. With a three-month-old baby at home and the smell of barbecue drifting through the neighbourhood, we simply made a start.

Within three months, we were incredibly busy. At one point, two delivery drivers were sitting in our living room. Dads, mums, grandfathers and sisters all pitched in. Everyone helped with deliveries; my mum was out taking orders to customers too.
The whole street smelled of barbecue. Luckily, we had lived there for years and our neighbours were happy to support our adventure. It was wonderfully chaotic. After a holiday, we rented premises and continued to grow satébestellen.nl.
THE PEOPLE BEHIND SPAARNE

to the Spaarne.
We had looked at quite a few restaurants, but none felt quite right. With four young children, we also wanted to balance work and family life. When Spaarne 66 came up for sale after the pandemic, we knew straight away: this lively, unique place was the one.
There were plenty of interested buyers, but in the end it was us. We took over Spaarne 66 in January 2022, ten years after that first satay on the balcony. Vester came later.
We have since handed over the reins at satébestellen.nl. But our satay? Of course we brought it with us to Spaarne 66. We have been making it for fifteen years. And you can taste it.
